I’m very pleased to announce that Allison (Allie) Campbell will take on the role of Lead Coach for Development Squad when Jen leaves us at the end of December. In the run up to Christmas you can expect Allie to be increasingly visible at Development Squad sessions as she works alongside Jen in order to help ensure a smooth handover. For the foreseeable future Kathy Jordan will continue to support Development Squad and will take the Monday evening session at the Mount.
Many parents and swimmers will know Allie through her involvement in our teaching section; in fact many current members of Development squad are likely to have been taught by Allie. What many may not know is the depth of swimming experience and knowledge that Allie is able to bring to this role.
Allie swam competitively with Aberdeen from the age of 8 and competed both nationally and internationally (representing Scotland) between the ages of 11 – 17. She was also selected to represent team GB but unfortunately illness prevented her from continuing to train/compete. Over the past thirty years she has taught all ages and abilities to swim, from babies to adults.
Allie holds a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Brighton in Sports Science and has spent time at the University of New Brunswick in Canada where she was part of their swim coaching team. She has also volunteered as a coach with Scunthorpe.
Allie has gained her Swim England Level 2 certificates in both teaching and coaching and also holds the NRASTC (National Rescue Award for Swim Teachers and Coaches) qualification.
A former lecturer in Sports Science at York College, Allie has been volunteering with our teaching section for approximately 2 years, primarily teaching gold and red hats. Allie is passionate about teaching and intends to continue to support our teaching section on a Sunday morning.
I’m absolutely delighted that Allie is joining our coaching team and I’m sure you will join me in wishing her and the squad every success in the future.
