YORK CITY BATHS CLUB hosted their annual Gala over the recent Bonfire night weekend. Held once more at the excellent Ennerdale Pool, on the edge of Hull, this gala was the final chance to gain qualifying times for the upcoming Regional championships next month, yet also catered for those starting out in competitive swimming. The club was delighted with the engagement of so many local clubs from across Yorkshire and the number and quality of swimmers they brought along.
In a constantly buzzing atmosphere on both days with plenty of vocal support for all the swimmers, some impressive swims were seen across all age ranges and competitive levels. YCBC was represented by an impressive 50 swimmers aged 9 through to 17, who competed in 183 swims and many registered several Personal Best times. The Club's swimmers picked up 29 Golds, 27 Silvers, 17 Bronzes and a further forty-four 4th to 6th places across the Age Groups. Best performances were registered by Annie Johnston with 9 Golds and Lucy Nicholson with 6 Golds, both of whom registered clean sweeps in all the events they entered. Both Annie and Lucy were recently returned from the club’s winter training camp and clearly demonstrated the benefit of such opportunity. Other Gold Medal winners were Freya Beck (2), Alice Carty, Simon Duston (2), Sam Russell (2), Sam Rainton (2), James Wilby and Jake Galley. Full results can be found here...
YCBC event promoter Anne Brennan wishes to thank all the club volunteers who gave their time and assistance to make the gala so successful and particularly so the younger members who played their part with so much enthusiasm and commitment. We hope all swimmers enjoyed their swims and wish them well in future competition.
